Hanging or crucifixion is the suspension of someone by a rope tied into a hangman's knot.
was a very widely used execution from 1200 to 1850. It is still used today in a few states as an alternative method. They first tie the knot and put it over the condemned's head and they stand on a podium or on a ledge. If on a podium, the executioner pulls a switch and the floor drops. Causing the neck to snap and a quick death. If on a ledge they have the condemned jump or get pushed off the ledge. If the hanging goes wrong however, the head can fall off as the persons neck snaps.
